One nice perk of the resort is the Starbucks vending machine on each floor, perfect for a quick caffeine fix. Additionally, the lobby features a beverage station with Starbucks coffee in the morning and sweet tea and lemonade in the afternoon, which we found quite convenient and refreshing.
Breakfast at Primrose
One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast at Primrose, which offers the best deal in Destin for families. Primrose offers a great buffet: kids 5 and under eat free, and kids 6 and older enjoy a delicious breakfast for just $12. The breakfast buffet is packed with all the staples—fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, French toast, bacon, and an egg station where you can get your eggs just the way you like them.
Primrose also has an a la carte menu to select from as well. My husband and I particularly loved the biscuits and sausage gravy, the chicken and waffles, and the breakfast bowls. Each was delicious and gave us the perfect start to our active days.
Poolside Lunches at Sea Level
For lunch, we enjoyed the convenience of the poolside café, Sea Level. While service is limited, so you often have to go to the bar to place your order, having the option to eat with the kids while still in your swimsuits, is worth the walk up to the bar. Some of my personal favorites were the chicken quesadillas and the caesar salad.
Quick Bites at Sprinkles Café
Sprinkles Café had a nice selection of drinks, custom coffees, snacks, and quick breakfast or lunch options. The afternoon ice cream was also a hit with the kids.
Late-night Room Service
When it comes to late-night options, room service at Henderson Beach Resort is somewhat limited, with pre-made sandwiches and salads being the primary choices. If you’re planning a late night, it’s best to plan ahead and maybe keep some snacks on hand in your room.
Accommodations
The Henderson Beach Resort has traditional hotel room options as well as condos. If you’re traveling with kids, the condos are the way to go. They come equipped with a full kitchen, making it easy to store and prepare snacks and meals for the little ones. No matter which route you choose, I definitely recommend booking a room with an ocean view to fully enjoy the beauty of the coast. Waking up to the sight of the sunrise over the ocean each morning is quintessential Destin.
Amenities
Henderson Beach Resort features three pools: two family-friendly pools with small lazy rivers and one adult-only pool. The lazy rivers are great for young kids, though older tweens and teens might find them less exciting. The sprawling turf lawn is set up with lawn games every day; our boys had a blast joining a pick-up game of kickball with other kids. There is also ping pong, putt-putt golf, and corn hole. For a break from the kids, the resort offers Poppy’s Kids Club. While the little ones are entertained, adults can enjoy a serene escape at the adults-only pool. There are also daily fitness classes available or you can check out a complimentary bike or paddle board.
Beach Access
The pathway to the beach is easy to access but can be a bit of a walk for little ones, so make sure to pack all the essentials. I highly recommend paying the extra fee to have an umbrella and two chairs set up for you—this service made our beach days much more comfortable.
Getting Around
A rental car is essential when staying in Destin. Options within walking distance of the resort are pretty limited, so I recommend renting a jeep or convertible to get around. Another fun mode of transportation is a golf cart. You are a bit more limited on where you can go and how far, but it’s a fun way to get around easily and explore the area. Do be aware the parking in Destin can be challenging to find and/or expensive, so be prepared accordingly.
